Alsace street corner mirror

I saw this street corner mirror in a small village in Alsace when we visited this part of France on a rather gray day of spring. But the weather is never a reason to stop me from taking photos πŸ™‚

I particularly liked the juxtaposition created by the look of the mirror and the bare branches in the background. Patterns on patterns and inside patterns πŸ™‚

The scene is part of a series of photos I took in a one-day trip From Breisach Germany to France. In this region, the villages along the Rhine River (close to Strasbourg) have a mixed population and culture. They date back to the early Medieval times, and the border between the two countries existed since the 17th century. There is no border today other than the North part of the Rhine River. Needless to say it’s a place full of history and memories, with a lot of interesting things to see.

This Alsace corner mirror attracted my eyes – it was like seeing reality in a different way. It was mirroring a scene of that village, with the specific French/German style houses and barns. There was also a man there, just about to cross the street. I captured it with my camera, but it’s there to endlessly capture small unique stories of the everyday life in this rural place.

Mirrors are magic I think, and if you like to have a little magic in your home, this is how it can look mounted on the wall. Is this a kind of an “oddball” picture? It may be and that’s why I like it πŸ™‚

Fishing Ropes of Nova Scotia

My husband and I spent some years in Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada, and we have also visited the Newfoundland and Labrador province. There I just loved to observe and explore everything related to fishing. I especially liked taking photos of the colorful ropes, the patterns and lines they create when rolled and tied together.

This is how they look like on a fishing doc in St. Margret’s bay, ready to be used:

When going closer they look really interesting. Just look how colorful they are! Here are some fishing tools and ropes stocked on a deck by the water. I saw and photographed them in Peggy’s Cove, near Halifax.

And here is a painterly version of these colorful ropes. It is available as art print in my Fine Art America gallery:

I also added a painterly look to this image uploaded it to my Fine Art America gallery:

Fishing Ropes of Nova Scotia Poster:

This is a decorative collage poster I uploaded to my Fine Art America Gallery. I put together various close-up photographs and details of colorful ropes used in the industrial fishing of Atlantic Canada. The poster is available as art prints to decorate any wall in a house or office. Click on it for all the art prints options:

Toys are less likely to be the subject of a travel site, but to me, traveling is not only about seeing landscapes and architecture…

I’m always carrying the camera with me wherever I go and as an avid documentary type of photographer,Β  I’m curious and like to observe things that others may not even notice… I try to take photos that tell stories, so I can impress my friends and family with what I’ve seen during my absence from home πŸ™‚

Here for example is a little boy crying because something went wrong with his small toy car… He was wiping his tear and looked so sad – Ohhh… He was a Guatemalan kid in Panajachel, on Lake AtitlΓ‘n, Guatemala – oh, yeah… that’s a great place to visit!
The kid made me immediately think about the saying: “The difference between a man and a boy is the cost of their toys” Ha, ha… πŸ™‚

Toys and kids

… but as I said, toy-cars are not only for kids… Look at this pedal boat on Lake Constance, in Friedrichshafen, Germany

They were really having fun with it πŸ™‚

Now, talking about Germans, they seriously like toys… It’s almost impossible to enter a house that doesn’t have at least one teddy-bear displayed someplace πŸ™‚

Here we were in a guesthouse in Kressbronn, a small town near Friedrichshafen, and they were having hundreds of bears in all the rooms, hallways even in the kitchen… it was like a bear house:)

But things are not always happy with toys… they get old and undesirable too.

This poor Eeyore – a stuffed donkey, was simply discarded on a street in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada – Oh, he broke my heart πŸ™
