Dolres Ann an old Fishing boat in Nova Scotia, Canada

Dolores Ann is an old weathered fishing boat in Nova Scotia, Canada. Wrinkled, with many layers of paint applied over the years, she is majestically mirroring in the still water of the bay at Cape Sable Island.
Quietly but proudly, this old fair lady tells us the story of fishing tradition practiced generation after generation in Nova Scotia.

I like the way she is showing her beautiful yellow color, and ornamental buoys. But please notice the symphony of the Lines: curved and straight, vertical and horizontal, all duplicated by the water reflection.

Thank you Dolores Ann for being there that day and posing for me!

A new horizon in Baja California, Mexico. Actually seeing new horizons is fortunately a wonderful thing I deal with quite often. This, because my husband and I like to travel a lot. – While this is not always easy, it is however very interesting and exciting.

New Horizons in Baja California

Not only that I’m seeing new things often, but I also like to take photos of the horizon. Here are some of them, from our trip this summer.

1. Baja California, West Coast

I really like this one, because I’m also a fan of photographing starbursts and water 🙂

New horizon in Baja California

It was in San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico in July, a nice place for a summer break. We came down from Arizona to escape the heat of the summer. The West side of Baja Peninsula is cool indeed, but not very well developed; a few hotels/resorts are hosting the sport fishing amateurs, but other than that not too much else…

Other 2 photos I found interesting from our trip to Baja California were taken near La Bocana, a small fishing village on the Peninsula de Vizcaino, well known for harvesting abalone.

2. Water mirage in Baja California

You have probably seen a water mirage before, but maybe few of you have taken photos of this amazing phenomenon. First I was really surprised that I was able to capture an image of something that actually doesn’t exist 🙂

A Real vs Fiction conundrum 🙂 Here they are:

This was an arid salty side of a beach transformed into a shortcut roadway between two villages: La Bocana and Punta Abreojos. The ocean was on the right side as you look at the photo. There was absolutely NO WATER at all on the horizon. However, you can still see the water reflections! – Nevertheless this is something to amaze even the less impressionable person:)

3. New horizon after crossing the Baja California mountains

View of Sea of Cortez from the mountains of Baja California

From La Bocana it took us a long drive day going South. We had to cross the Sierra de Santa Lucia Mountains from the Pacific Ocean to the Sea of Cortez.

We passed Santa Rosalia and spent one night in Loreto. A wonderful scenic road with a lot of fantastic landscapes. What a great experience this Baja California trip ! Click on the photos to see them in them in my original gallery.

New Horizon

It was in November 2015 when we traveled through Austin Nevada, going South after we spent the summer in Montana.

A big snowfall started in the beginning of our trip South and followed us through the high elevations of the Oregon mountains. The layer of snow on the highway was fortunately not very significant, but the town was still white two days later.

It was Veterans Day and the “Loneliest Highway” – route 50 – was lonelier than normal – I guess…

I had the same impression about this small old town – everything was closed.

In the streets of Austin Nevada, a living ghost town

This place is an unincorporated community in Lander County, Nevada at an elevation of about 6000 ft in the Toiyabe Range of Mountains. It developed during a silver rush around the 1860’s because of mining opportunities, not only on silver, but also gold, turquoise and uranium. Turquoise of high quality is still mined here in small quantities.

Luckily, that day the sky was bright and blue. In addition, the beautiful sunlight was revealing lots of interesting architectural and urban details. A photographer heaven 🙂

At the first sight, the old small town looked to me almost like a ghost town. However, as a proud local advises, Austin Nevada is more alive than it appears to be. Indeed, from the time when this place was a stop on the famous Pony Express route, things have changed… a little.
We could see some new cars and some modern artifacts along the street. It looks like tourists are coming here to visit, and I can see the reason why. There are even 3 hotels, one B&B and two gas stations here. I also noticed a library, where (if it ever opens), they can borrow books and find out more about the history of this Wild West establishment.

Many things to see and photograph here… The classic and historic signs along the sidewalks and on the buildings, simply fascinated me.!

In this town you can shop for locally crafted jewelry made with the famous turquoise, plus for antiques and souvenirs.

This time we just made a short stopover, but we’ll probably come back. I’d like to see more of the mining and historic artifacts here – part of Nevada memories, as well as the beautiful surrounding area.
