First time I participated in a Halloween Party at a Pub was in 2012 In Ottawa, Canada. It’s amazing that it took me so long to write about this event. This photo below got the Grand Prize Photo Winner at “City of Ottawa Canada Picture it Downtown Campaign” in 2012! π
Here is the story: At that time I was participating in a photographic contest organized by the City of Ottawa. They made this “City of Ottawa Canada Picture it Downtown Campaign” for the benefit of small businesses located downtown in the Canadian Capital. The contest lasted a few weeks, and we had to submit fresh images everyday. I enrolled and went everyday to take photos in the city and then submitted them. There were daily and weekly prizes. I was was extremely enthusiastic about doing this, and took a lot of pictures. To my delight, I won some of these small challenges – Yay, it was so great! π
Halloween came and my husband and I along with a good friend went to this pub, also in downtown Ottawa. I took many photos of course. The light was not great, but using a fast lens partially solved the problem. I was simply amazed by the creativity in producing all the decorations and costumes π

As I remember, that was the last day of the contest. What a great way to try my hand with these pictures in Ottawa. I submitted some from the Halloween party at the pub too, but I thought it was over. To my big surprise though, I got an email announcing me that I was the Grand Prize Winner of this contest with the photo at the top of this page! Wow, Wow, Wow!!! I also earned about $750 for this and the other photos π
It was the greatest Halloween party ever! Even more exciting than taking pictures of Halloween witches in Newfoundland – although that was fun too π You can see more pictures from Ottawa in my FAA gallery.
Nevertheless, Halloween witches are very scary, day or night. I had the chance to witness this with some shots I took in Newfoundland, Canada. They appear in many places in towns and villages, where you least expect them. But if and when they find a good environment, they can become dangerous! π
Witches generally wear black clothes and hats, so they can hide at night or in dark places. They like the darkness so nobody can see them. Therefore, for Halloween, people put lights outside to scare the evil spirits away. It looks like it works! Some fall into corners and relinquish their spooking π

The good news is that Halloween witches are not the smartest creatures on Earth… This is how often they cannot even enter into houses. I’m not sure whether there is a scientific explanation for this or not. Fact is that some witches think they can go through walls, and they simple get stuck π

But this one (above) looks like a young one, so maybe it didn’t have too much experience in doing it… Who knows ??
However, even older ones can miss the target. In a small village in Newfoundland (near St. Johns), I could photograph one. Believe it or not, it simply hit the street light pool and that was it π

Ha, ha… I was happy to see that π Yuck those witches! Somebody should invent a repellent for them. But then, why bother I would say. Sometimes they are funny anyway… π
If you want to see more, I have some other Halloween pictures as gift ideas in my GiftSmart.com site – holidays section. You may also have some fun seeing my Halloween Party at the Pub experience, downtown of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Seeing double? No, but seeing two of a kind is often funnier than seeing only one. Scenes are more dynamic, and we can often even imagine a story… ** Click on the images for a larger better view!
In the animal world for instance, there will always be a kind of dialog or an action.
… and between two individualsΒ things can happen π
This is the case of two swans at mating time on the Rhine River in Germany. Were they fighting or doing a mating ritual? Not sure, but I’m tempted to think about the second possibility. I called the image “Nuptial Dance”
On the other hand two pairs of eyes can be more convincing than just one. What do you think about two kittens, begging to be taken home? Hard to resist right?
I photographed a couple of Elks in Newfoundland, Canada. They were somehow irritated by my presence. I could almost hear them saying something like: “Let’s go dear, paparazzi are here!” π
I quickly left after I took the telephoto shot of those animals.
Well, I’m under the Gemini sign, therefore a very sociable person, but I can understand that sociability can only go so far… Ha, ha!
But being alone is definitely not my thing, and this is also reflected in my photos. Maybe that’s why I’m a fan of candid photography π
This is a photo of a Mexican father getting his son accustomed with handling the reins of a horse. I found the scene quite touching… * This father and child photo is one of my all time favorites π
… And here is a Kuna Yala Mother in Boquete, Panama with her daughter π

Other bigger kids can have very serious discussions like these two in Bocas del Toro, Panama. I made it as a digital photo illustration in Norman Rockwell style for a photo contest. It is also available as art prints for kids in my Fine Art America Galleries, along with other similar ones.
On another level, when there are two workers, the job gets easier. I photographed these Fearless Sky Workers in Panama City, Panama:
Two things can create the expectation of something that can happen, like this wine bottle and glass. Well, they are not exactly the same kind, but closely related π Here we go… a good example of “Layers” in photography π
Here are two rowboats bumping into each-other while floating on moving water of the Atlantic Ocean in Nova Scotia
The symmetry of reflection also create beautiful double content in images. I really like this one I took at Flaming Gorge Reservoir:
Another double image I like is this bike sign in Halifax Nova Scotia, reflected in a bike repair shop
Bottom line: In my world, two things are better than one π
